I get a lot of questions from people across the US and rest of the world, asking where the Buffalo River is exactly? Well….generally speaking…I tell them it is in north central Arkansas. I realize those are pretty vague directions, so I’ll use this post to explain a little better.
First of all, since the river travels over some 135 miles, with multiple access points, giving a general location such as “north central Arkansas” may be adequate for some. Below is a map which highlights the section of Arkansas where the river is located.

Some of the larger cities within an hour or two of the Buffalo River include Harrison, Eureka Springs, Fayetteville, Russellville, Conway, Mountain View, Mountain Home, Batesville & Branson. The northern part of Arkansas is filled with beautiful scenery, lots of gift shops, flea markets & antique stores.
Here is a map that provides a closer look at the highlighted section above.

This should give you a good idea on where you will find the Buffalo River within Arkansas. Again, there are many access points along the river and I hope to detail most of these in upcoming posts. If you need directions to a specific point on the river that you’ve heard about, feel free to contact me and I’ll be happy to get what you’re looking for.
